  • Verify that this air cylinder has the required thrust to open/close the gate.

    • Cylinder thrust = load factor x operating pressure x tube inner diameter sectional area.
      = 0.5 x 0.4MPa x π/4 x 252mm²
      ≈98N > 5N (= overall load for pushing cylinder: 0.5kg x 9.8).
    • Lateral load applied to rod end = 5N < 5.5N (= allowable end lateral load applied by cylinder with Ø25 tube diameter and 50mm stroke).

Other Design Consideration

  • When the gate is closing, the cylinder has a stopper that prevents over-stroking. After the gate is closed, the cylinder thrust is applied to prevent unwanted workpieces from being transferred.
