Selection steps

■Shock Absorbers Selection Steps

(1) Calculate the inertia energy (E1)

Calculate the energy based on the collision material mass (m), collision velocity (V), moment of inertia (I) and collision angle velocity (Ω).
Please see the technical information for details.

(2) Temporarily select the absorber stroke

Determine the temporary stroke (S') according to the figure below.

(3) Calculate the additional energy (E2')

Verify the existence of thrust force (F) and calculate the additional energy according to the selection calculation example.

(4) Calculate the total energy

Calculate the total energy by adding inertia energy (E1) and addition energy (E2') together.

(5) Check the equivalent mass

Calculate the equivalent mass according to the selection calculation example to check if it is less than or equal to the maximum equivalent mass (me') shown in the catalog.

(6) Select the absorption property structure from the energy ratio.

Temporarily select the orifice type according to the figure below.

    • Workpiece is assumed to be fed by a worker. After completion, the worker lowers the table and ejects the workpiece.

Operating Conditions or Design Requirements

  • Outer dimensions: W460 x D412 x H808mm
    Operation:
    Dual-stage stroke changeover with a table lift distance of 100 + 100mm
    For container height of up to 200mm, only the upper cylinder strokes for 100mm.
    For container height of up to 300mm, the lower cylinder also strokes for 100mm (however, the stroke length is changed according to the counterpart machine). 

Required Performance

  • Positioning accuracy: ±3mm
    Load: 50N

Selection Criteria for MainComponents

  • For the 1st lift unit, Ø50 air cylinder is selected to lift 546N load.
    For the 2nd lift unit, Ø40 air cylinder is selected to lift 350N load.

Design Evaluation

Verification of main components

  • The cylinder thrust is verified to see whether the lifting power requirement is satisfied.
    • 1st lift unit: from Ø50 air cylinder and air pressure of 0.4MPa producing 780N x 0.7 (mechanical efficiency) = 546N,
      and lift unit weight of 160N (including Ø40 cylinder), there is no problem.
      2nd lift unit: from Ø40 air cylinder and air pressure of 0.4MPa producing 500N x 0.7 (mechanical efficiency) = 350N,
      and lift unit weight of 80N, there is no problem.

Other Design Consideration

  • Uses two stages of lift stroke depending on the height of the container.
  • Equipped with shock absorbers as a safety measure against malfunction during full-stroke lift.
  • Equipped with cylinder-mounted switch to detect full stroke.
  • Equipped with limit switches to facilitate height adjustment for a variety of bottles.
