Rectangular connectors are designed with a rectangular interface. They are frequently used in products such as discrete wire IDC connectors for terminating multiple discrete wires and D-sub connectors used in office appliance and computer interfaces. The connectors are usually used in sets that comprise the male (pin connector) end with exposed terminals and female (socket connector) end where the pin is inserted.
