Shackles
A shackle is a hanging fitting that is attached to the tip of a wire rope and used. There are two main shapes: a straight U-shaped type and a round type with a wide U-shaped bottom. Among the straight type, the long shackle with a long and narrow shape is suitable for lifting sheet piles, etc., because it is easy to hook. The round type features a round shape that makes it difficult for the ropes to overlap with each other even if two wire ropes are used. There is also a long-eye type shackle that can be used in combination. The structure that prevents unnecessary rotation of the suspended load allows smooth unloading. The main materials of shackle are steel and special steel alloy, etc., and both have excellent durability and corrosion resistance. High-strength, straight shackles GN 584 are made in analogy with the US Federal Specification RR-C-271 and feature sixfold safety standards, which means that the minimum failure load is at least six times greater than the value of the nominal load (WLL).The rated size and the nominal load (WLL) are drop-forged into the shackle which makes it easier to select the proper sling gear. In general, the nominal load must not be exceeded.The designs with nut and split pin (Type B) are normally recommended for permanent connections.
