MISUMI locating pins are an economical alternative to application-specific in-house production. There are no freight costs (within Germany), no minimum quantity surcharge and there are comparatively short delivery times, which is especially useful when ordering small quantities of locating pins.

MISUMI locating pins

The in-house production of application-specific locating pins cannot begin until a technical drawing is created, production planning has taken place and the machinery has been prepared - this applies if you need a hundred locating pins or even just one. If, for example, you need two different types of locating pins for a certain application, it will generally take about 20 working days until they have been manufactured and can be installed. If the designer chooses MISUMI and orders via the online shop, they will save 60% of the time needed and up to 65% of the cost. Our drawings are automatically generated using specific properties and are promptly available as 3D or 2D CAD data. Ordering is completed after a few clicks and a couple of days later your customised locating pins will be delivered. Ordering small quantities is still great value since MISUMI does not have a minimum quantity surcharge but still delivers quicker than the competition. Batch orders within the discount scale feature reduced prices and short delivery times.

Locating pins can be freely configured

Individually configuring locating pins is very straight forward: First of all, the user selects a basic shape: In addition to the standard version, MISUMI also provides locating pins with either internal or external thread as well as adjusting screws with circular groove, notch or flat design. Seven basic conical and spherical shapes are available for the shape of the guidance component. The shape of the pin body can either be round or have a rhombic cross-section, a large or small head or locating pins with or without a stepped end. The client can then choose the material, the surface treatment, hardness and a type number. Then a decision has to be made on the parameters to be configured.

MISUMI offers three basic versions, whose head diameter can be configured to between 1 to 30mm in 0.01mm increments:

  • Choose from a product portfolio with pre-set head diameters, standard lengths and pin diameters
  • Free choice of head diameter with predetermined head and pin lengths and pin diameters
  • Head diameter/length and pin length can be freely configured

Functions and application area

In assembly systems for powertrain production, locating pins are used to locate and position components. They thus have a direct influence on the necessary precision and the end result of the system. A rough division is made into two types, round and flattened locating pins. These are used, for example, in the area of positioning/clamping fixture construction and in the transport of workpieces. In addition to the products themselves, MISUMI also offers application examples for solutions for the TS1 and TS2 workpiece carrier systems.

In body manufacturing, locating pins and positioning pins are used to fix sheet metal parts during production. The pins form the connection between the car body and the conveyor system. In automated handling and welding processes, positioning pins (locating pins) ensure the exact positioning and alignment of individual body parts. The areas of application for locating pins and positioning pins in car body construction are:

  • joining device / clamping device / welding devices (GEO stations)
  • gripping device / process gripper / handling gripper
  • transport device / floor conveyor (skids)
  • measuring device / testing devices

The connection between the pin and the system or device is done with positioning pin holders. For the fine adjustment of the positioning pin holders, shims are used to compensate the height differences and position differences in the tenth of a millimetre range in order to comply with the specified manufacturing tolerances in body construction.

Once the user has selected the desired locating pin, they will immediately see the prices per unit and delivery times in the online version of the MISUMI catalogue.
