Robomotion banks on MISUMI’s component expertise to streamline manufacturing processes

robomotion GmbH: A full-service provider for advanced manufacturing
Robomotion is a young company from Leinfelden near Stuttgart in Germany that serves as a one-stop-shop for automation solutions. The company designs and constructs assembly and robot machines which are used by large, well-known companies in the food, medtech and injection moulding industries. In addition, Robomotion writes software programs for special purpose machinery and is able to fully integrate solutions prior to shipment, with machines ready for quick installation and startup upon arrival at a customer’s facility. Robomotion has built a reputation for top-quality special purpose machines. Being very innovative and customer- oriented, Robomotion was nominated for the 2007 German foundation award very shortly after the company foundation. This prestigious award is granted by the media companies Stern and ZDF in cooperation with Porsche and the German Sparkasse bank.
While all of the above mentioned factors are key aspects of Robomotion’s success, another approach has also made a contribution to the company’s flexibility and efficiency. Wherever possible, Robomotion engineers strive to use configurable MISUMI components in order to streamline configuration and order processes as well as replace production parts with purchase parts.
Thomas Unmuth, who works at Robomotion as an engineer, sums up his experience: “In the past, component sourcing could be very time-consuming for us. Firstly, I had to design the components. a drawing, ask for quotations, evaluate the offers and order the products. This resulted in high costs and efforts. If I commissioned a local manufacturer for the production of components, the costs for the raw material alone were often very high. In addition, our internal effort for the creation of drawings and evaluation of orders was tremendous.” As a conse-quence, Robomotion was looking for new, time-saving ways to find their desired components. During their search, Robomotion found MISUMI, the leading supplier of configurable and fixed mechanical components and indirect materials. Thomas Unmuth is delighted about the cooperation: “At MISUMI, I can find a product selection of 14 million products, which covers most of our desired products. I only need to configure the product online and place an order. I can also download 3D CAD drawings for free. At many other suppliers, I cannot receive free 3D CAD data or I can only obtain it by email on demand.”
In addition to the CAD configurator and the MISUMI Online shop, robomotion also used MISUMI’s design support tools for the project. In particular, they used the operating life calculations for linear guides, which can elsewhere only be found in technical literature or on the internet.
With MISUMI’s support, robomotion was able to streamline their internal processes and procedures and could thus gener - ate considerable time and cost savings. “By using MISUMI components, we could shorten our overall processes from the design phase to the delivery of the compo - nents. It is a great advantage for us that we can find so many items and CAD data in the MISUMI Online Shop. The product selection is unbeatable. The time savings for our engineers as well as the expense savings we realise with MISUMI are sim - ply outstanding. MISUMI supports us in quickly providing our customers the products and services they desire.”
