Thread inserts in many sizes

Thread inserts at MISUMI can (after insertion) be configured with a diameter of 3 to 16mm and a length (depending on the diameter) of 3 to 32mm. Designs with standard threads and fine threads are available. Furthermore, thread inserts without actuators are also available in the range.

Used material

Thread inserts at MISUMI are composed of authentic stainless steel 1.4301/X5CrNi18-10.

Use of thread inserts

  1. Drill a hole in to the work piece with a suitable diameter according to the table above. (Drilling depth > length after insertion + 2.5xP)
  2. Process the bore with insert threads (standard, medium, end thread, in this sequence) and completely remove the metal waste.
  3. Insert the thread insert up to the tip of the sleeve of the mounting tool (actuator on the side of the tip) and cut the actuator off the mandrel slit. Turn the handle and push the thread insert into the guide of the part of the thread on the tip of the tool. Align it so that the insert does not protrude further than the tip of the sleeve (1 or 2 spaces).
  4. Turn the handle in order to insert the thread inserts. In doing so, hold the mounting tool vertical to the work piece. Check the insertion step through the opening of the tip of the sleeve. Upon completing the mounting process, remove the tool from the work piece. If you press the handle during mounting in the mounting direction, this can damage the thread. Always slightly turn the handle in the horizontal direction. During the drill process, do not turn it in the opposite direction because this can result in damages.
  5. Upon completing the mounting process, use the breaking tool to break the actuator out of the groove by hitting against it with a hammer (Fig. 3).
  6. Press the thread dismantling tool against the thread insert in order to remove it and then slowly turn in the anti-clockwise direction (Fig. 4). Use a special thread if you want to use a new insert in the free drill hole.

Suitable insert threads

Insert threads for each type of thread are available in suitable diameters and lengths.
