Purpose

  • Irradiates workpiece with a laser and projects its magnified image on the screen.
  • As the flat spring retains the load, simple vertical position adjustment is possible without using tools.

  • The vertical position of the laser is adjusted by moving the lever up and down according to the workpiece height.

  • The laser position retaining force of the thin flat spring is verified.

    • Spring constant=Young's modulus (= 186000N/mm²) x plate width ( = 6mm) x Plate thickness³ (= 0.5³ mm³) / (4 x Length³ (20³ mm³)) = 186000 x 6 x 0.5³ / (4 x 20³) = 4.36N/mm
    • Load=spring constant (4.36N/mm) x deflection (5mm) = 4.36 x 5=21.8N

Other Design Consideration

  • The optical axis of the laser projector is set to be slightly inclined so as to project the image of the entire workpiece.
  • Adjustment of the flat spring load is made with upper and lower set screws, by pressing the flat spring at both sides, not by tightening the set screws.
  • As the laser light could be radiated to a worker's eyes, a transparent acrylic board is installed in front of the projector to attenuate the laser light.
