IDEA NOTE The T-shaped hook eliminates the necessity of a chuck.

A T-shaped bracket for hooking the workpiece is attached at the top of the cylinder, allowing the mechanism to move workpieces without chucking.

    Cautions on the CAD data

    1. Assembly data shows the assembly drawings in the concept design phase. The sole purpose of the data is to explain the structure and functionality of the assembly and is not considered nor to be used as a final design.
You will need to edit the Data so that it meets your specific design conditions.
    2. The CAD data unit assembly consists of sub-assemblies.
Each sub-assembly unit can be used as it is or can be edited.
    3. * The part in the frame is a sub-assembly unit.

    4. The Data for fabricated parts is based on easy-to-edit dimensions and shapes in sketches and histories.
    5. The Data including the third-part components are made by the Company.

Application Overview

Purpose

  • A simple one axis mechanism to pull and return an ascending/descending tray driven by a pneumatic linear guide.

Points for use

  • Automatic horizontal movement achieved by pneumatically-driven linear guides

Target workpiece

  • Workpiece: resin tray
     outer dimensions: W268 x D173 x H17
     workpiece weight: 1.5kg

Design Specifications

Operating Conditions or Design Requirements

  • Cylinder Stroke: 380 mm
  • Outer dimensions: W520 x D240 x H205

Required Performance

  • Overall transfer weight: 6.2 N

Selection Criteria for Main Components

  • Pneumatically-driven linear guides
    • Pneumatically-driven linear guides with a stroke of 380 mm or longer are selected.

Design Evaluation

Verification of main components

  • Whether the pneumatically-driven linear guides have the required output power for pulling the tray.
  • Pneumatically-driven linear guides
    • Pressure area:113 mm ²
    • Operating pressure: 0.4 MPa
    • Theoretical output: (pressure area) x (operating pressure) = 113 x 0.4 = 45.2 N
    • Overall transfer weight: m = (chuck weight) + (workpiece weight) = 1.5 + 14.7 = 15.2 N
    • Friction coefficient: k = 0.4
    • F = mk = 15.2 x 0.4 = 6.1N < 45.2N(OK)

Other Design Consideration

  • By using a T-shaped hook instead of a chuck, the mechanism is more simple and efficient.
  • This unit operates by inserting the T-shaped hook in the workpiece through an ascending/descending lift unit.
  • Assemble the device with the shafts (pilots) for the mounting board set as the datum for device position.
  • Shafts are adopted because circular posts do not have a pilot on one side.
  • Another stopper not equipped with a cylinder is used in the case where the workpiece is displaced due to inertia. This also prevents the cylinder thrust from being directly applied to the T-shaped groove, and protects the resin tray.
